Guwahati: Expressions of solidarity and renewed demands for justice for singer Zubeen Garg marked a gathering held at Zubeen Udyan in Assam’s Nagaon town on Saturday evening.
Garima Garg, wife of the singer, along with members of Jontro, visited the venue and paid floral tributes to a statue of Zubeen Garg in the presence of Nagaon MLA Rupak Sarmah.
Jontro is a tribute band formed by Zubeen Garg’s long-time collaborators and core musicians.
Addressing the gathering, Garima Garg questioned the delay in justice for the singer.
“If Zubeen Garg does not get justice, then who will?” she said, adding that if justice is not delivered in his case, “it would be better to remove the word ‘justice’ from our dictionary altogether”.
Partha Pratim Goswami, a close associate and longtime bandmate of the singer, said the statue would truly “come alive” on the day justice is delivered.
“On that day, I will be the first person to light a lamp here in his honour,” he said.
Supporters and admirers who attended the programme reiterated calls for justice for the artist and expressed appreciation for the initiative to honour him. The event witnessed emotional scenes as attendees gathered in solidarity with the singer.
