Imphal: Manipur Police intercepted a car transporting bags of opium seeds, leading to the arrest of an alleged smuggler who was attempting to traffic the contraband in the southern parts of Manipur bordering Myanmar on Saturday, officials said on Sunday.

Based on intelligence inputs that anti-social elements were attempting to smuggle the illicit items, Manipur Police launched large-scale anti-narcotics drives to clear illegal poppy fields, destroying hundreds of acres of illicit plantations and temporary huts in Tengnoupal district.
