Guwahati: Manipur Chief Ministerย Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Friday urged citizens to resolve issues through dialogue rather than resorting to bandhs or blockades, speaking at an event in Imphal West district.
While inaugurating a bridge at Akham Makha Leikai, he said shutdowns and blockades driven by anger against the government end up creating hardship for the public, particularly those dependent on daily wages.
He also spoke about his visits to Jiribam, noting that during those interactions, members of Kuki, Paite, Hmar and Meitei communities came together at the local level and maintained cordial relations.
He further referred to an incident in April, saying that a bomb blast at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district led to the death of two children and caused deep sorrow. According to him, the aftermath, along with repeated shutdowns, also affected normal economic activity in the state.
Reiterating his appeal, he urged people to address grievances through discussion and mutual understanding, stressing that bandhs only add to the difficulties faced by working families.
In a later social media post, he shared that he had inaugurated an RCC bridge over the Nambul River at Akham Mayai Leikai in Lamsang Assembly constituency, alongside MLA S. Rajen Singh.
He said the new bridge would improve regional connectivity, make movement of people and goods easier, support local markets, and help boost economic activity.
He also stated that the government continues to focus on strengthening road infrastructure for overall public welfare in Manipur.
