Heroin seized in Mizoram
One person, identified as Jaydanamul Barbhuiya (28), a resident of Lokanathpur in Assamโ€™s Cachar district, was arrested for possessing the contraband packed in 50 soap cases, it said.

Aizawl: The Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department, in coordination with Assam Rifles, seized over 620 grams of heroin during a joint operation on the Zote bypass road in east Mizoramโ€™s Champhai district in the early hours of Thursday, the Excise Department said in a statement.

One person, identified as Jaydanamul Barbhuiya (28), a resident of Lokanathpur in Assamโ€™s Cachar district, was arrested for possessing the contraband packed in 50 soap cases, it said.

The seized heroin had allegedly been smuggled from Myanmar and was being transported to Assam for illegal distribution, the statement added.

A TATA truck bearing an Assam registration number plate, allegedly used for transporting the heroin, was also seized during the operation.

The accused has been booked under Section 21(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

He was produced before the District and Sessions Court in Champhai, the statement said.

The Excise and Narcotics Department said it has continued to intensify its crackdown on narcotics trafficking across the state.

Various drugs and illicit liquor, including 11 kg of heroin, 56 kg of methamphetamine, 113.9 kg of ganja, and 11,543 litres of Indian-made foreign liquor, have been seized since January this year.
