Dimapur: Kohima police arrested two underground operatives belonging to the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) for their alleged involvement in an extortion racket in the state capital Kohima, PRO, Kohima police, said in a press release on Tuesday.
Many incriminating documents were also recovered from their possession.
The document said a team of Kohima police mounted discreet surveillance at around 8 pm on May 18, following specific intelligence regarding the movement of certain underground factions in the main town area.
After sustained surveillance, two FGN cadres were apprehended from Razhรผ Point area at around 2 am on Tuesday. They have been identified as Kudukhoyi Vero (38), self-styled โChaplee finance kilonserโ (Rhakho group) and Mulevo Khesoh (35), self-styled โColonelโ of NNC/FGN (Akavi Chishi group).
Both accused are residents of Phezoucha, Kohima, originally hailing from Phek district.
The recoveries included 14 โyearly vehicle taxโ slips, one โnon-local tax receipt’, three unserved โinformation lettersโ issued in the name of the self-styled ‘chaplee finance kilonserโ, two served and three unserved ‘annual commercial tax’ documents, 10 unserved ‘residency registration’ slips and one โassignment orderโ issued in the name of self-styled โkedahge FGNโ (Akavi Chishi).
A case has been registered at North PS in Kohima for thorough investigation of the extortion racket.
The two arrested are being interrogated to uncover the full network, including other operatives, financiers, and potential linkages, of extortion activities across other districts, the document read. The Kohima police appealed to all citizens and business owners to report such extortion demands without fear, promising strict confidentiality about their identity.
