Guwahati: The Meghalaya High Court on Monday heard a petition filed by the prosecution seeking cancellation of bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi honeymoon murder case. However, the court adjourned the matter after the prosecution sought additional time to present its arguments.
During the hearing, the defence counsel stated that they were prepared to proceed with the matter. The prosecution, however, requested more time to make detailed submissions, following which the court scheduled the next hearing for Wednesday.
Sonam Raghuvanshi was granted bail last month by a Shillong court, which observed procedural irregularities in her arrest records, including alleged lapses in informing her about the grounds of arrest and inconsistencies in the sections cited in official documents prepared by investigators.
Challenging the order, the Meghalaya Police approached the High Court seeking its cancellation.
The case relates to the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was allegedly killed during his honeymoon visit to Sohra in May 2025. Investigators have claimed that Sonam conspired with her alleged partner Raj Kushwaha and three others – Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi to carry out the killing near Wei Sawdong Falls.
While Sonam is currently out on bail, the remaining four accused continue to remain in judicial custody. Their bail pleas have been rejected twice by the trial court in Shillong.
Meanwhile, the trial in the case is underway, with the prosecution having already begun examining witnesses in court proceedings.
