Dimapur: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Monday reviewed the status of school education in the state, focusing on governance structures, student enrolment, teacher availability and key initiatives aimed at improving learning outcomes and strengthening the education system.
Chairing a high-level review meeting on the performance of the School Education Department at Raj Bhavan in Kohima, Yadav stressed the need to improve learning outcomes, strengthen school governance and ensure effective implementation of government education programmes across the state.
He urged continued efforts to enhance the quality of education and ensure that welfare and academic initiatives effectively reach students at the grassroots level.
The review reiterated the state governmentโs commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive and accessible school education system.
Officials from the department presented an overview of Nagalandโs education scenario, detailing the number of schools, teachers and students across government and private institutions.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening data-driven governance through the Education Management Information System (EMIS), along with efforts to improve monitoring, planning and accountability in the education sector.
Key departmental initiatives were also discussed, including the distribution of free textbooks and learning materials to government school students, provision of uniforms and notebooks under elementary education programmes and the implementation of the PM POSHAN scheme to improve nutrition and attendance.
Progress under the Nagaland Education Project-The Lighthouse (NECTAR), a World Bank-supported initiative, was also reviewed. The project focuses on strengthening school governance, enhancing teacher professional development, improving digital learning infrastructure and encouraging community participation in education.
Officials further highlighted ongoing capacity-building programmes for teachers and school leaders, including professional learning communities and digital platforms aimed at improving teaching practices and leadership in schools.
