Guwahati: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has kept key portfolios such as Home, Public Administration and Police with himself after the newly formed government finalised the allocation of ministerial responsibilities on ministers sworn in on May 10, marking a significant step in the establishment of the new administration.
The portfolio distribution was cleared by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar based on the recommendations of the Chief Minister.
The move comes within a week of Vijay and his Council of Ministers taking oath, as the government begins shaping its administrative framework and outlining its policy priorities.
The allocation underscores the administrationโs focus on retaining control over core governance areas like law and order, while delegating sector-specific and development-related departments to other cabinet ministers.
As Chief Minister, Vijay will directly handle several major departments, including Public Administration, Police, Home Affairs, Special Programme Implementation, Women, Youth and Children Welfare, welfare of senior citizens and differently abled persons, as well as Municipal Administration and Urban Water Supply. These key portfolios place critical administrative responsibilities under his direct supervision.
N. Anand has been assigned Rural Development and Water Resources, covering irrigation works and poverty alleviation schemes. Aadhav Arjuna will manage Public Works and Sports Development, while Dr K.G. Arunraj has been given Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare.
Senior leader K.A. Sengottaiyan will oversee Finance, including pensions and related benefits. P. Venkataramanan takes charge of Food and Civil Supplies, and R. Nirmalkumar has been allotted Energy Resources and Law, covering electricity, courts, prisons and legislative affairs.
Rajmohan will handle School Education, Tamil Development, and Information and Publicity, while Dr T.K. Prabhu has been entrusted with Natural Resources and mining-related sectors. Industries and Investment Promotion has been given to Selvi S. Keerthana, the youngest member of the cabinet.
With the portfolio allocation now completed, the Vijay-led government is expected to focus on policy execution, administrative reforms and preparations for its first full-scale Assembly session.
