Guwahati: The Sadar Hills-based Kuki-Zo Village Volunteer group has requested Naga civil society organisations to step in and help secure the release of the remaining individuals who are still in captivity, as tensions continue to rise in the hill regions of Manipur.

The group stressed the need for calm and cooperation among all parties, saying that humanitarian concerns, peaceful engagement, and mutual understanding should be kept at the centre while instability continues to affect tribal communities.

The safe release of 20 individuals in Shangkai village of Ukhrul district took place on March 12 after appeals from several Naga organisations, including the United Naga Council and the Naga Peopleโ€™s Organisation.

According to the group, that release took place even though the Kuki community had suffered casualties, and it was seen as an effort to avoid further conflict and support peace in the region.

The group asked Naga civil society bodies, including the United Naga Council, Naga Peopleโ€™s Organisation, and SDSA, to intervene without delay and help secure the release of those still being held.

It added that peace between the two communities can only be maintained if efforts are made to strengthen mutual trust and avoid further fragmentation in the hill regions.

The statement also stressed the importance of continued dialogue, fairness, and peaceful coexistence among tribal groups.
