Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur has said that the situation between tribal communities in Manipur is at a critical stage and has called for restraint, stating that further violence must be avoided.
In a statement, the Secretary of the organisation said it does not want the situation to escalate into a cycle of violence that could deepen divisions among communities. It added that many civil society organisations across different groups also do not support violence.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur said that not all members of the Tangkhul and Zeliangrong communities seek conflict, and that the Kuki community also does not support confrontation with other tribal groups.
It further said that recent developments indicate a pattern of provocation and mobilisation by certain groups, including groups such as ZUF (Kamson), FNCC, TNFO, and Khanuithot Khon, which it claimed has affected trust and harmony among tribal communities.
The organisation also raised concerns over incidents such as attacks on civilians and religious leaders, questioning the motives behind such acts and calling for impartial scrutiny.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur appealed to community leaders, civil society organisations, and authorities to exercise restraint and work towards de-escalation through dialogue. It urged all sides to avoid actions that could further escalate tensions.
It reiterated its commitment to peace, dialogue, and coexistence, and called for collective efforts to maintain unity and stability among tribal communities.
