Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has reduced his official convoy from seven vehicles to four, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation amid the ongoing West Asia crisis, officials said on Thursday.
According to officials, the decision was taken after a discussion between the Chief Minister and Director General of Police Anurag upon Saha’s return from Guwahati on Wednesday.
The revised convoy now includes only four vehicles, one of which is the Chief Minister’s car.
Earlier, speaking to reporters at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, Saha said he personally supports reducing convoy size, provided that security arrangements are not compromised.
The step comes after the Prime Minister urged citizens to cut fuel consumption and adopt energy-saving measures such as using public transport, electric vehicles, and carpooling, in light of global tensions in West Asia.
There has been no official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office on whether similar reductions will apply to other VIP movements in the state.
