The Sangeet Natak Akademi will organize a festival of music, dance and drama featuring the recipients of Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2017 from September 14-18 at U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong.
Interacting with media in Shillong on Thursday, chairman of the Akedemi, Shekhar Sen said that the Akademi has selected 34 artistes of the country who have made a mark as young talents in their respective fields of performing arts for Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, 2017.
The Yuva Puraskar will be presented at a special ceremony, to be presided over by Governor of Meghalaya, Tathagata Roy.
Sen urged the artistes from the State to witness the festival to get an exposure to the music, dance and drama from other parts of India.
He also said that the performances by the accomplished artistes will give motivation to the local and aspiring artistes.
He also said that the festival will provide an exposure about the activities of the Akademi.
Also present at the press briefing was the secretary of the Akademi, Rita Swami Choudhary who further added that cultural mapping will be done at the programme in which people can give data about local artistes.
The festival will witness performances from the recipients of Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2017 who have excelled in the field of music, dance, theater, traditional/folk/tribal dance/music/ theater and puppetry.
