Guwahati: Paving the way for a second consecutive term, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Sunday formally appointed Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister of Assam.
The Raj Bhavan issued an official notification to this effect following Sarmaโs unanimous election as the leader of both the BJP and the NDA Legislature Parties.
The appointment has been made in exercise of the powers vested in the Governor under Clause (1) of Article 164 of the Constitution of India.
โIn exercise of the powers vested in him under clause (1) of Article 164 of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Assam is pleased to appoint Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister of Assam,โ the Raj Bhavan notification stated.
The high-profile swearing-in ceremony, which is expected to draw top national leadership, is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2026. According to the official itinerary, the oath of office will be administered at 11:40 am at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati.
