Guwahati: Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the first Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Minister of West Bengal since Independence on May 9, marking a major political transition after the BJP ended the All India Trinamool Congress governmentโs 15-year rule in the recently held Assembly elections.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Narendra Modi along with several senior NDA leaders and BJP functionaries. Soon after taking oath, Adhikari greeted the Prime Minister and other party leaders present at the event, expressing gratitude for their support as the BJP officially formed its first government in the state.
The BJPโs decisive victory in West Bengal is being viewed as one of the partyโs biggest political gains in eastern India, with celebrations reported from different parts of the state following the swearing-in ceremony.
