Guwahati: Devajit Saikia has resigned from the post of Advocate General of Assam, ending a nearly five-year tenure that involved key constitutional and legal responsibilities.
He submitted his resignation on Wednesday, stating that he was upholding the โhigh tradition and constitutional practiceโ of the office. His exit follows the completion of the current governmentโs term under Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In a statement after stepping down, Saikia said it was a โgreat honour and privilegeโ to serve the state in such a significant constitutional role.
He also thanked the Chief Minister, the Council of Ministers, the legal community, fellow advocates, government officials, and others for their support, trust, and cooperation during his tenure.
