Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur has strongly condemned what it described as continued acts of violence and aggression by sections of the Tangkhul community in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts against the Kuki-Zo community.
In a statement issued by its Secretariat, the organisation cited the burning of Lanchah Kuki Village in Kamjong district as a serious escalation of tensions, calling for immediate accountability and intervention from authorities.
It also referred to earlier incidents, including the burning of Gampal and Haijang villages, armed attacks on Kuki settlements, and the killing of civilians, alleging a repeated pattern of violence.
The group said that despite these incidents, the Kuki community had exercised restraint and avoided retaliation in the interest of maintaining peace and coexistence.
The statement expressed concern over what it termed the continued targeting of civilians and destruction of homes, saying such actions could further strain relations between communities and should be condemned by authorities and civil society.
The organisation further noted that the incident comes at a time when the Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF) has appealed for an end to hostilities, stating that such developments undermine ongoing peace efforts.
It also alleged that residents of Chassad and nearby areas were being denied essential supplies by neighbouring communities, calling it a humanitarian concern and urging authorities and stakeholders to ensure access to basic necessities.
Reaffirming its stance, the Kuki Inpi said it remains committed to peaceful coexistence but warned that continued restraint should not be mistaken for weakness. It added that the community is prepared to protect its people and land if further aggression continues.
The organisation has called for immediate steps to stop the violence, restore normalcy, and ensure accountability to prevent further incidents.
