Guwahati: In honor of the late Gyamar Padang, the whistleblower who exposed the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak scandal, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) officially set aside a plot of land on Tuesday, May 5, for the construction of a proposed “Statue of Honesty.”
Meje Taku, the president of AAPSU, spearheaded the campaign during a memorial service on Padang’s third death anniversary that took place at the 6KM point near the temple and vegetable market.
At the location where the property was formally dedicated for the memorial, union members, sympathizers, and locals assembled. Taku and other AAPSU representatives were observed prepping the site and removing vegetation as part of a symbolic gesture to signal the start of the project.
The union claims that the new statute seeks to acknowledge Padang’s contribution to exposing corruption associated with the APPSC paper leak case, which caused a great deal of public indignation and resulted in important sociopolitical changes in the state.
Addressing to the public, AAPSU said that the memorial would be a constant reminder of Padang’s dedication to openness, responsibility, and merit-based government. It further stated that his deeds continue to motivate young people without jobs and students in Arunachal Pradesh to resist injustice and corruption.
During the programme, AAPSU unveiled and installed a commemorative board at the site, formally marking the land as reserved for the construction of the memorial. The signage, dated May 5, 2026, described the project as a tribute to the honesty and integrity of Gyamar Padang.
The proposed monument would serve as a symbol of public resistance against corrupt practices in the state, according to AAPSU leaders, who reaffirmed their dedication to protecting his legacy.
