Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a decisive victory in the bypoll in Northeast, with its candidate Jahar Chakraborti securing a decisive victory in the Dharmanagar Assembly bypoll in Tripura, while Daochier Imchen took a significant lead in the Koridang by-election in Nagaland.
Chakraborti polled a total of 24,291 votes, comfortably defeating his opposition. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Amitabha Datta secured 6,001 votes, while Indian National Congress nominee Chayan Bhattacharya received 5,936 votes.
Other contenders,including candidates from smaller parties such as Amra Bangalee and SUCI(C), as well as independent candidates, lagged significantly behind. The None of the Above (NOTA) option recorded 444 votes.
The Dharmanagar bypoll witnessed a voter turnout of 70.09 percent, reflecting steady participation in the electoral process.
Meanwhile, in Nagaland also BJP won the Koridang Assembly by-election in Mokokchung district. Imchen secured 7,317 votes defeating independent candidate Toshikaba, who polled 4,194 votes.
The Koridang constituency recorded a notable voter turnout of 75.06 percent.
The results from both states underline the BJPโs continued electoral strength in the Northeast, with a decisive win in Tripura and Nagaland.
