Guwahati: The Kamrup Metropolitan district administration has cancelled the licence of Exoro, a popular rooftop pub in Guwahatiโ€™s Bhangagarh area, for allegedly violating its permitted operating hours.

The decision was made on Wednesday, April 29, after officials found that the establishment had stayed open past the allowed closing time. According to official orders, Exoro continued operations until at least 3 am, exceeding the 12:30 am limit set under its IMFL ON licence conditions.

This action follows the emergence of video footage reportedly showing individuals linked to the recent Mathgharia road accident leaving the pub late at night shortly before the fatal incident.

District Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan Swapneel Paul issued the cancellation order and directed the Excise Department to conduct a detailed inquiry into the pubโ€™s functioning, with a report to be submitted within 15 days.

Earlier, Gauhati High Court advocate Geetima Bora had lodged an FIR at Noonmati Police Station, alleging that the bar-cum-restaurant continued to operate and serve customers beyond legally permitted hours.

The complaint also suggested that such violations may have contributed to the sequence of events leading up to the Mathgharia accident.
