Two held for trafficking minor girls in Lakhimpur

North Lakhimpur:ย Two persons have been arrested by Lahimpur Police for trafficking two minor girls from Biswanath district. The arrests were made on the early hours of Wednesday at Laluk-Ranga De-reserve road following the accident of the vehicle in which the girls were being transported.

According to police, two minor girls from Dhuli in Biswanath district were picked up by a group of four men in a SUV with registration number AS01 GQ 7347 from Banderdewa on Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Lakhimpur district on Tuesday night. According to the victims, they were called by someone to reach Banderdewa to be taken to Dimapur in Nagaland for work.

The four accused took the two minor girls towards Laluk in Lakhimpur district along NH-15. One of the victims managed to escape from the vehicle at Harmutty, while the other was taken towards Arunachal Pradesh via the Kachajuliโ€“Ranga De-reserve road.

The vehicle later fell into a ditch near Ranga De-reserve, alerting local villagers. Two of the accused were caught by the villagers, while the remaining two managed to escape.

Police rescued the second girl from the spot and later reunited her with the other victim at Laluk Police Station.
