Imphal: Security forces dismantled 12 bunkers and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives during coordinated operations across Manipur over the past 36 hours, officials said on Wednesday.

Seven bunkers were destroyed in areas under Litan police station in Ukhrul district, while five others were dismantled under Saikul police station in Kangpokpi district, including at Tingpibung village, Lungter Hill and Leplen village.

In a separate operation, security personnel recovered weapons from Maovom village and adjoining areas under Churachandpur police station. The seizure included an AK-47 rifle, a carbine, four single-bore rifles, a pistol with a magazine, improvised mortars (pompi), grenades, an 81 mm mortar bomb and other explosives. Four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were destroyed on the spot.

Officials said the operations were carried out by Assam Rifles in coordination with Manipur Police as part of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.

During the operations, one cadre of PREPAK (PRO) was apprehended in Kakching district. Two suspected insurgents linked to PREPAK (PRO) and PLA were intercepted along the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district. Another individual was detained in Ukhrul district while allegedly attempting to transport Rs 36 lakh across the border.

All apprehended persons and recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police for further legal proceedings, officials said.
