Agartala: Hundreds of Tipra Motha Party workers on Saturday took control of the Chabimura tourism facility in Gomati district, claiming that the site falls under the jurisdiction of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.

The supporters locked the main gate of the management office and said that members of the existing management committee would not be allowed to enter. However, they maintained that tourists visiting the site would not be restricted from accessing the area.

โ€œSince 2018, a committee comprising BJP leaders has been managing the affairs of Chabimuraโ€ฆ It falls within the jurisdiction of the TTAADC, and as the ruling party of the ADC, we should run it,โ€ a party worker said.

Located along the Gomati River, Chabimura is known for rock carvings dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, including a large depiction of Goddess Durga carved into sandstone cliffs. The site attracts visitors who travel by boat to view the carvings.

Officials said that normal activities at the tourism facility were disrupted following the incident.

There was no immediate response from the existing management committee or BJP leaders on the development.
