Guwahati: A Naga Village Guard member, Horshokmi Jamang, was killed in an armed attack in Sinakeithei village in Manipurโs Ukhrul district on Friday, according to the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Working Committee.
The group said the incident took place in the early hours when Naga Village Guard personnel were on routine patrol between Sirarakhong and Sinakeithei villages.
The victim, 29-year-old Horshokmi Jamang, son of Lungshim Jamang from Chatric Khullen in Kamjong district, was fatally shot during an ambush near Sinakeithei.
The committee attributed the attack to armed Kuki groups operating under Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangements, along with other armed elements.
TNL stated that the patrol was being conducted due to ongoing unrest and movement of armed groups in the region.
It added that NVG units had been keeping watch over the area due to repeated activity linked to such groups.
The committee paid tribute to Jamang, stating that he died while protecting his land and community. It also expressed condolences to his family.
In Ukhrul and nearby districts, intermittent tensions involving armed groups continue, while patrol routes and village outskirts remain sensitive areas.
