Guwahati: Several roads across Meghalaya have been assigned new names following a government notification issued by the General Administration Department (B), and the changes take effect immediately.

Among the updates, the road formerly known as โ€œBlessed Mother Teresa Roadโ€ has been redesignated as โ€œSaint Teresa Roadโ€. Another correction has been made to โ€œRev Nicholโ€™s Roy Roadโ€, which now officially appears as โ€œRev. J.J.M Nichols Roy Roadโ€. A PWD-maintained stretch connecting Thorika Rabha and Nibari has also been renamed โ€œUtpal Rabha Roadโ€.

In further revisions, โ€œPasyih Garampani Road (P.G Road)โ€ has been renamed โ€œPhramerโ€“Shangpungโ€“Saphai Roadโ€. Likewise, the route passing through Wahthapbru locality, extending towards Jaiaw Pdeng via Mission Compound, will now carry the name โ€œDr. Friday Lyngdoh Roadโ€.

The updated list of names has been sent to concerned offices and departments for implementation and compliance with the new directive.

The Cooperation Department has also taken an administrative step by assigning responsibility under the Meghalaya Right to Public Services Act, 2020.

An official order issued on April 16 confirms that Joint Secretary CS Khongwir will serve as the nodal officer for the department.
