Sale of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) illegally in grocery, stationery and pan shops in various corners of Darrang district of Assam was on the rise recently even as an inter-district racket of illegal IMFL trading has started functioning in the district.
This came to light from an incident on Tuesday where Darrang police nabbed three persons at Duni when they were illegally transporting a consignment of IMFL.
Out of these three accused persons, one is identified as Rana Das (35), a resident of Bosagaon under Panigaon police station of North Lakhimpur district.
The other two have been as Jogen Barua (45), a pan shop owner and a local resident of Duni under Burha police out post and Mainul Islam (30) of Gerimari under Mangaldai police station of Darrang district.
According to Superintendent of Police, Darrang, Sreejith T, the staff of Burha police out post led by its in charge sub inspector Bimal Ch Roy carried out the operation at around 5 am on Tuesday.
The police team seized 150 bottles each filled with IMFL in the volume capacity of 375 ml and 180 ml respectively.
A Maruti Alto vehicle bearing registration no AS-13-E-8940 has also been seized in the operation.
Later the accused persons along with the seized items have been handed over to the Excise Department , the Superintendent of Police added.
