Guwahati: Dhubri district saw an exceptional voter response in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections on Thursday, April 9, with overall turnout reaching 92.68%.

Voting in Dhubriโ€™s five constituencies wrapped up smoothly, with residents overcoming difficult terrain to cast their ballots. Each assembly segment reported strong voter participation, showing the districtโ€™s active involvement in the electoral process.

Golakganj recorded the highest turnout at 94.52%, followed by Gauripur at 93.56%. Birsing Jarua reported 93.09%, Dhubri 91.95%, and Bilasipara 89.56%.

Based on the March 15 ERONet update, Dhubri had 12,20,384 eligible voters. To ensure smooth polling, officials set up 1,548 booths, including 285 stations on remote river islands accessible only by boat.

After voting ended, Presiding and Polling Officers securely transported the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to strong rooms at PC Institution HS School. These facilities will remain under round-the-clock surveillance until vote counting begins on May 4.

District Commissioner Megh Nidhi Dahal praised the orderly conduct of the elections, noting the absence of any major incidents or disruptions. “We appreciate the citizens of Dhubri for their enthusiastic participation. Achieving nearly 93% turnout reflects their civic responsibility and awareness,” Dahal said.

Officials added that turnout figures could rise slightly once votes from the most remote polling stations are fully recorded.
