Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bosiram Siram on April 6 called for the Chief Ministerโ€™s resignation following a Supreme Court order directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a preliminary enquiry into alleged irregularities in the award of public contracts.

Welcoming the courtโ€™s directive, Siram described it as a significant development and alleged that it underscores concerns over corruption, nepotism and misuse of power under the BJP-led state government.

He claimed that contracts worth over Rs 1,270 crore were awarded to individuals with close familial or political links, terming it a breach of public trust and a violation of transparency and accountability norms.

Siram said the courtโ€™s intervention validated concerns earlier raised by the Congress regarding the alleged diversion of public resources. He also criticised the BJPโ€™s anti-corruption stance, saying the allegations run contrary to its stated commitment to clean governance.

The APCC chief demanded that the Chief Minister step down on moral grounds pending the outcome of the enquiry. He further called for a free, fair and time-bound investigation, preferably under judicial oversight, and urged strict compliance with the courtโ€™s directions, including preservation of records and full cooperation with the investigating agency.

Raising concerns over the alleged misuse of public institutions, Siram said such actions weaken democratic accountability.

He added that the Congress would step up its outreach across the state to mobilise public opinion on the issue.
