Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) of Mizoram has batted for better sports policy for the development of the youth of the State.

The MNF took out a street campaign on Saturday as part of its preparation for the ensuing Assembly election campaign.

Addressing the rally at Ramrikawn in Aizawl, MNF youth wing president Lalrinawma said the government should develop a sports policy in order to develop the youth.

This was stated in a press statement issued by the MNF on Sunday.

Citing the absence of a policy for sports under the State Government, Lalrinawma said a good sports policy is a must in a sports crazy state like Mizoram.

The youth leader also lambasted the Congress led State Government for failing to announce any cash reward to Lalremsiami Hmar, the first Mizo sportsperson to win a medal in the Asian Games.

Hmar was part of the Indian women’s hockey team that won the silver medal at the recently-concluded Asian Games, 2018, in Jakarta of Indonesia.

Lalrinawma in the statement lamented that while the respective governments of Hmar’s team mates have announced rewards of Rs 1 crore reward each for their state players, the Mizoram government is yet honour its sportsperson till date.

He also urged the State Government to honour and reward any player who brings laurels to the State.

He also criticized the State Government for the rapid increase in the population of non-tribals as it is a threat to the indigenous population of the State.

He also assured to rid Mizoram of all the negative aspects if the MNF is voted to power in the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled to be held at the fag end of this year.
