Guwahati: Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi on Tuesday said a movement to remove the BJP from power in Assam has begun, while addressing a rally organised by the Opposition Unity Forum at Sarbhog in the Bhawanipurโ€“Sorbhog constituency.

Gogoi accused the BJP of failing to protect Assamโ€™s interests and alleged that Clause 6 of the Assam Accord remains unimplemented. He further claimed that instead of identifying and deporting illegal foreigners, the government has enabled their settlement in the state.

He also alleged growing public resentment against corruption linked to families in power and what he described as authoritarian governance. โ€œThe people will take a decisive stand against corruption and any attempt to weaken democratic institutions,โ€ he said.

Referring to alleged land-related irregularities, Gogoi remarked that voters would weigh such issues carefully. โ€œThe people will now decide whether 1,250 bighas or 12,000 bighas carry more weight,โ€ he said, in an apparent reference to land controversies.

On the issue concerning singer Zubeen Garg, he alleged that the circumstances surrounding the artisteโ€™s death indicated a planned act and claimed that justice had not been delivered. He added that if justice is not ensured, people should reconsider extending support to the ruling party. He also alleged that the singerโ€™s memorial has not yet been constructed, calling it a sign of continued neglect.

Leaders and supporters of allied Opposition parties were present at the rally as part of a joint campaign ahead of the Assembly elections.
