Imphal: Manipur Youth Congress activists staged a protest at the gate of their office in Imphal on Saturday following the arrest of Indian Youth Congress leaders in Delhi. Police prevented the group from marching after they gathered at the Congress Bhavan gate around 11:30 am.
The protest was held against the recent arrest of Indian Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib and other leaders by Delhi Police. Demonstrators carried placards with slogans opposing the central government. Additional personnel from Manipur Police were deployed at the site, and the rally did not proceed beyond the office gate. No arrests were reported in Imphal.
Former MPCC Youth President Ningthoujam Popilal said Chib had been detained while protesting during the Global AI Summit in New Delhi. He alleged that the summit, hosted by the Government of India, had drawn criticism over the display of a robotic dog presented as a product of Galgotia University, claiming it was manufactured in China.
MPCC Youth Secretary General Mayengbam Anand stated that the protest aimed to highlight issues concerning farmers, unemployed youth and broader national concerns.
Meanwhile, a Delhi court granted bail to Uday Bhanu Chib in connection with the protest at the India AI Impact Summit. He was produced before Duty Magistrate Vanshika Mehta around 1 am on Saturday after completing four days of police custody. The court rejected Delhi Police’s request for a seven-day extension of custody and granted bail on a surety bond of 50,000 rupees.
According to his counsel, the court directed Chib to surrender his passport and electronic devices. The earlier police custody had been granted to question him regarding his alleged involvement in the protest during the summit.
