Imphal: The Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM), reported multiple incidents of malpractice during the ongoing High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2026, currently being held from February 23 to March 23 across 161 centres for 36,725 candidates, including 392 internally displaced students.
According to BOSEM, three candidates were expelled on February 27 for impersonation in optional subjects. Two candidates (Roll Nos. 33331 and 33097) were caught impersonating at the Lilong Hr. Sec. Madrassa Centre, while a third candidate (Roll No. 38476) was expelled for the same offence from Kumari High School, Hiyangthang Centre. Necessary action has been taken against them as per the rules in force.
In a related development, the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Thoubal, on February 24 remanded two individuals, Konsam Deepak (28) and Sagolsem Umakanta (50), residents of Charangpat Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district, to police custody until March 2 to facilitate a thorough investigation. They were arrested for allegedly supplying exam materials to students during the ongoing HSLC Examination.
The accused were apprehended on February 23 by volunteers of a student organisation at the PLC Academy Yairipok examination centre and produced before the court by a team from Nongpok Sekmai Police Station.
Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) informed the court that the complainant, Ayam Thoi, Controller of Examination of BOSEM, reported that the accused were found in a Maruti van parked near the school.
The van contained various electronic equipment, including an inverter, battery, printer-cum-photocopier, a laptop with charger, two mobile phones, and copies of English literature books and course material for Class X.
BOSEM continues to conduct the Class X examination under strict security measures to ensure the integrity of the process.
