Imphal: An FIR has been filed against Athokpam Gokulchandra, popularly known as Gokul, a well-known Manipuri film actor, over the alleged physical assault of his wife, Athokpam Ongbi Sonia, who is also a Manipuri film actor.
Wanglembam Gunajit, Sonia’s father, lodged the FIR at the women’s police station in Imphal West district against his son-in-law, alleging that his daughter was beaten following a heated argument after attending a birthday party.
According to reports, the incident occurred on February 17 at Gokulchandra’s residence (51), who reportedly lives with his wife and children in Langjing Achouba, Imphal West district.
The FIR states that Sonia was admitted to the state-run JNIMS Hospital twice this month and later underwent psychiatric treatment due to trauma. She is currently staying at her father’s residence.
As per legal procedure, the police submitted the report to the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class I on February 23 for further proceedings. Anticipating a possible arrest in connection with the FIR, Gokulchandra filed an anticipatory bail application before the Sessions Judge of Imphal West through his counsel.
After hearing submissions from the petitioner’s counsel and reviewing the application, the court granted interim pre-arrest bail to Gokulchandra and directed the Imphal West women’s police station to submit an objection report by March 10.
