Assamese speech-to-text tool
Assamโ€™s Aakhor AI, the worldโ€™s first Assamese speech-to-text tool, is showcased at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi.

Guwahati: Assamโ€™s homegrown AI initiative, Aakhor AI, is representing the state at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, being held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from February 16 to 20. Developed by Borno Labs Private Limited, Aakhor AI is the worldโ€™s first speech-to-text application for the Assamese language.

The summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 16 and features participation from leading AI organizations across India and about ten other countries. Over 300 pavilions showcase innovations from global startups, companies, and government departments.

Aakhor AI has drawn attention for its efforts to preserve and promote Assamese, alongside other regional languages of the Northeast. By enabling AI tools in Assamese, the project allows students, entrepreneurs, and the general public to engage with technology in their native language, bridging the gap between advanced AI and regional language accessibility.

The summit also features global tech leaders such as Sam Altman, Dario Amodei, Sundar Pichai, Bill Gates, Demis Hassabis, and Mukesh Ambani, along with addresses from several Indian government ministers.

Creators of Aakhor AI, Kabyanil Talukdar and Indranil Talukdar, express optimism that the projectโ€™s voice-typing and creative-writing tools will boost productivity and creativity among Assamese speakers.

They hope Aakhor AI will inspire new initiatives and creative work in the Assamese language, helping it thrive in the digital era.
