Acting on a tip-off, Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Tuesday night arrested a hardcore drug peddler from Guwahati Railway Station and seized suspected heroin weighing around seven grams valued at around Rs 1 lakh in the international market.

The operation was launched jointly by GRP and RPF at around 7 pm on Tuesday evening.

Frequent drug seizure incidents at Guwahati Railway Station have raised concern over question of security in rail travel.

The accused was arrested from near west cabin of Guwahati Railway Station.

The 21 years old accused has been identified as Momiran Begum alias Gadi.

The officer in charge of GRP informed the accused hails from Jyoti Nagar under Goalpara police station of Goalpara district.

Police also seized Rs 11,000 in cash from the possession of the accused.

A case no- 242/2018) U/S 22(b) NDPS Act has been registered.

The accused will be forwarded to district and session judge court of Kamrup (Metro) later on Wednesday.
