Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand on Friday met representatives of the Alternative Learning Systems IAS Coaching and officials from the Department of University & Higher Education, Government of Manipur.
The meeting took place at the Chief Ministerโs Secretariat. The discussions focused on extending support to deserving IAS aspirants from across the state.
The initiative follows the Union governmentโs decision to open a UPSC Mains examination centre in Imphal from 2026. Officials said the move will make civil services examinations more accessible to candidates from the region.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Khemchand said the ALS coaching team and Higher Education Department officials met him to convey congratulations. He added that the state government remains committed to empowering Manipurโs youth through inclusive and quality education.
Officials said around 400 candidates preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC), and other central competitive examinations will receive full scholarships. The support will come under a joint sponsorship programme with the Manipur government.
Under the scheme, candidates must be permanent residents of Manipur. They must also be at least 20 years of age. The initiative will support 200 aspirants through joint sponsorship. In addition, ALS IAS Delhi will select another 200 candidates under a 75% fee waiver scheme.
Last year, the initiative reportedly offered scholarship support worth Rs 4 crore. Officials said the programme aims to provide access to quality civil services coaching. It also seeks to create pathways for capable youth to prepare for the UPSC examinations with structured guidance.
