Imphal: Security forces comprising the Assam Rifles, Border Security Force and Manipur Police intensified operations along the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district of Manipur over the past 24 hours.
The coordinated operation led to the recovery of a large cache of firearms, ammunition, explosives and electronic devices, officials said on Tuesday. As part of the operation, 18 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along with connecting wires were recovered and safely disposed of on the spot.
The recoveries were made from the general areas of Bongmol and SL Zougam villages under Tengnoupal police station, close to the Myanmar border. The seized items included one AK-47 rifle with magazine, two pistols, two single-barrelled rifles, 11 live rounds of ammunition, seven empty cartridge cases, three radio sets, two pairs of combat dress trousers, two pairs of shoes, and IED wires.
All recovered items were subsequently handed over to the concerned police station for further legal proceedings.
Officials said security forces have stepped up vigilance in vulnerable border areas to prevent cross-border anti-social activities and thwart any potential security threats.
