Shillong: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is set to conduct its Budget Session from February 16 to 27, covering 10 working days.

The schedule was finalised after careful discussions to allow adequate time for legislative proceedings, Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma said on Tuesday following the Business Advisory Committee meeting.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is scheduled to present the state budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year on February 20. Three days of the session will be allocated for private membersโ€™ business, while the remaining days will focus on government matters.

Addressing concerns about time management in previous sessions, the Speaker said measures have been put in place to ensure smoother proceedings, with flexible sitting hours if needed.

He added that on the day when voting on supplementary demands takes place, the House will sit until 3 pm, but the schedule could be extended if required.

Rejecting rumours of any delay, Sangma confirmed that the session would start as planned. He also noted that the decision to begin the Budget Session earlier was influenced by advice from the government and the upcoming GHADC elections.
