Imphal: The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Thursday stated that the killing case of Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh, an innocent Meitei civilian, is being handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a thorough and impartial investigation.
The Governor made the statement when a Joint Action Committee against the killing of Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh, led by MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, along with MLAs Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh and Kangujam Ranjit Singh, accompanied by family members of the bereaved, called on him on Thursday afternoon.
A Lok Bhavan communique issued on Thursday night stated that during the meeting, the visiting delegates submitted a memorandum to the Governor.
The memorandum conveyed concerns and sought appropriate action in connection with the unfortunate death of Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh, who was abducted and shot dead by suspected Kuki militants in Churachandpur district on Wednesday night.
In response, the Governor expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
He informed the delegation that the case is being handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a thorough and impartial investigation.
The Governor further stated that intensive combing operations have been launched since Wednesday night to apprehend those responsible, with coordinated efforts involving both State and Central forces. These operations are being undertaken on a war footing.
Assuring the delegation of the Governmentโs earnest attention to the matter, the Governor reiterated that all necessary measures are being taken in accordance with the law and once again expressed profound regret over the tragic loss of life.
