Imphal: Security forces recovered two improvised long-range rockets containing nearly 140 kilograms of explosives during counter-insurgency operations in Manipur’s Churachandpur district over the past 36 hours, officials reported on Monday.

Acting on a tip, the security forces carried out counter-insurgency operations and recovered the illegal military items from a hideout at Lanchingmanbi, Chingphei village, under Henglep police station, Churachandpur district.

The seized items included one rocket with approximately 100 kg of explosives, one sniper rifle with a telescopic daylight scope, two country-made SBBLs, one 9mm pistol with a magazine, five 7.62 mm live rounds, ten 12-bore live cartridges, and one IED weighing approximately 3 kg.

During the second phase of the operation, the security forces retrieved a similar 40-kg explosive-type rocket, along with a launching stand and battery, from Sejang village under the same police station.

The recovered items included two medium-sized rockets weighing 40 kg each, three country-made double barrels, and one country-made single barrel.

No arrests were made during the operations, the reports stated, adding that the recovered items were later transferred to the relevant police station and further legal proceedings were initiated.
