Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday advised opposition parties to modify their approach to politics and asserted that repeating the same record would not yield any results.
“The opposition keeps claiming that nothing has happened. To understand what has actually been achieved, our rivals should first stop the fault-finding approach. They keep asking us questions and outrightly reject our achievements. Most importantly, their slogans have also become old, obsolete, and outdated. This is the right time for them to introspect seriously,” said Saha.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the Platinum Jubilee Foundation Year of Udaipur Ramesh English Medium HS School, founded in 1951.
The school was established by the late Ramesh Chandra Datta and was later managed by his son. The Government of Tripura subsequently converted it into a grant-in-aid school.
Acknowledging the school’s remarkable academic achievements, Saha said, “This is one of the very few schools in the state that has produced MLAs, ministers, chief ministers, scientists, authors, and many distinguished individuals across almost all fields.
The alumni of this school are not only serving here but are working all over the globe. This speaks volumes about the legacy that this institution carries.”
In his speech, Saha spoke on a range of issues but laid particular emphasis on the state government’s outlook towards education and stated that the government aims to make Tripura a hub of educational institutions.
“When we were in college, Tripura didn’t have any medical college of its own. Today, we have 350 MBBS seats. In addition, we are in talks to add 100 more medical seats. We also have nursing colleges, law colleges, colleges of agriculture, veterinary, and fisheries. Several new technical institutions are coming up, and we are establishing enough general degree colleges as well. This shows how we are building a favourable atmosphere for education,” he added.
On student-centric initiatives, the Chief Minister said, “Our Super 30 scheme has received a great response. So far, eight students have been selected for IITs, 12 students secured medical admissions, and 13 students cleared NIT entrances. We have distributed iPads and tablets among 703 meritorious students. As many as 84 schools have been upgraded to PM Shri schools with massive infrastructure makeovers. To attract students to science and mathematics, we introduced state-level talent search exams for mathematics and science after this government came to power.”
