Imphal: The cybercrime police in Manipur’s Imphal East district arrested a 22-year-old man for uploading content and promoting enmity among different communities on social media, the police reported on Saturday.

Mitram Mangal, also known as Napik (21), a resident of Nongpok Heirok Maning Leikai, Imphal East, was arrested from his residence on Friday on charges of inciting violence, disturbing social harmony, and misusing social media platforms for unlawful activities.

In Manipur, there are 36 state government-recognised communities.

The Manipur police morning bulletin reported on Saturday that Mitram Mangal/Napik was apprehended in connection with a viral video circulated on Facebook through the handle โ€œLuwang Punshiba,โ€ which was found to be promoting enmity among different communities.

The report further stated that the arrested individual has been produced before the magistrate and bound down under appropriate legal provisions.

Manipur Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, communal harmony, and public order.

It added that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to incite violence, disturb social harmony, or misuse social media platforms for unlawful purposes.
