Imphal: Security forces intensified their crackdown on Maoist rebels, particularly in the sensitive border state of Manipur, with the capture of nine cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) over the past 48 hours, officials stated on Saturday.
A substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and incriminating items was also recovered during operations in the Manipur valley districts.
The KCP is demanding the “reclamation” of the “robbed sovereignty” of Kangleipak (Manipur) by ending its merger with India.
In the first phase of the operation, security forces arrested four active KCP (People’s War Group) cadres from the Andro Leitanpekpham area under Andro police station in Imphal East district.
The arrestees include Ningthoujam Birjit Meitei, also called Tocha (36), and Mutum Norin Meetei (33), both of Nongren Mamang Leikai, Imphal East district; Pangabam Meiraba Meitei, also called Nongpokngakpa (32) of Yairipok Nongbram, Imphal East district; and Ningombam Robi Meitei, also called Akhup (32), of Nongren Mamang Leikai, Imphal East district.
From their possession, authorities recovered one .32 pistol with a magazine, three .32 live rounds, four mobile phones, one Aadhaar card, a sky-blue Santro car bearing registration number MN01W 9427, and two Baofeng radio sets.
The second phase of the operation resulted in the arrest of three active KCP (Taibanganba) cadres who were temporarily residing at the Langol Game Village Relief Camp from Langol Game Village Zone-II under Lamphel police station in Imphal West district.
The arrested cadres are Amom Somendro Singh, also called Kangleibung (32), of Wangoo Ahallup Makha Leikai, Bishnupur district; RK Bishworjit Singh, also known as Boinao (38), of Nambol Thiyam Makha Leikai, Bishnupur district; and Ningthoujam Santosh Singh (30), of Churachandpur Saikot Zaion Veng, Churachandpur district. Two mobile handsets were recovered from them.
The final operation led to the arrest of another active KCP (Ibungo Ngangom) cadre, Kshetrimayum Binoy Singh, also known as Kebi (41), of Singjamei Wangma Torban Kshetri Leikai, Imphal East district.
He was apprehended from a farmhouse at Langol Game Village Zone-III under Lamphel police station, Imphal West district. A mobile handset and an Aadhaar card were also seized from him.
