Guwahati: Security forces on Monday arrested a senior operative of the banned Revolutionary Peopleโ€™s Front/Peopleโ€™s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) in Manipurโ€™s Imphal West district, officials said.

Acting on specific intelligence, the forces picked up Kshetrimayum Nilakanta Singh alias Kanta or Mangal (51) from Takyel Kolom Leikai Leirak-6 under Lamphel police station limits. Singh hails from Kakching Turel Wangma in Kakching district and also maintained a residence at Langjing Achouba Awang Leikai in Imphal West.

During the operation, personnel seized two mobile phones and a driving licence from the arrested cadre. Officials said investigators are examining his activities and links to the outlawed organisation to determine his exact role in insurgency-related operations.

In another coordinated action the same day, security forces unearthed a stockpile of weapons and communication equipment from the Konaitong and Pelyang hill range under Machi police station in Tengnoupal district. The recovered items included two improvised mortars and three wireless communication sets.
