Guwahati: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday urged Assam and central governments to support the families of three youths killed in the Goa nightclub fire.
The three men, Rahul Tanti, Manojit Mal, and Digambar Patir were among 25 people killed in the Birch by Romeo Lane blaze on December 7.
Gogoi highlighted the recurring hardships families face when Assamese youth die far from home.
In a social media post, he urged authorities to ensure a swift and dignified repatriation.
“Local communities repeatedly urge administrations to bring back the mortal remains of our sons. We request the government to help,” he wrote.
Families live in remote, flood-prone areas of Kathal Grant, Silcoorie Grant, and Jonai.
They said arranging the last 200–400 km journey home is costly and difficult. Many feared delays if ambulances and hearses were not provided free of cost.
Civil society groups in Silchar and Dhemaji urged administrations to deploy dedicated vehicles immediately.
The three men worked at the nightclub. Reports suggest electric firecrackers during a performance triggered the blaze.
Assam mourns three more youths lost while seeking livelihoods outside the state. Gogoi said bringing Assamese youth home for their final farewell should never become an ordeal for families.
