Guwahati: Manipur BJP MLA L. Rameshwor Meetei has urged the Central leadership to expedite the formation of a state government, stressing that delays could weaken the partyโ€™s position in Manipur.

He also suggested that fresh elections might be necessary if the political deadlock persists.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme, Meetei said several BJP legislators support Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata as the leader for government formation.

โ€œWe are ready to convey our support to the Governor and stake our claim to form the government. We have been waiting for the right moment to do so,โ€ he added.

Meetei emphasized that legislators from both hill and valley constituencies are prepared to back the move. Expressing concern over the prolonged uncertainty, he warned, โ€œIf the government is not formed by November, the partyโ€™s position will be unfavourable. If no government can be established, fresh elections should be held.โ€

Political analysts say Meeteiโ€™s remarks highlight ongoing internal differences within the BJPโ€™s Manipur unit, as months of administrative limbo continue to fuel speculation about divisions among party legislators.
