Situation in Dima Hasao district of Assam has turned volatile with various organizations on Sunday threatened to launch agitation if the government transfers an inch of district land to the proposed Nagalim.

Hundreds of protestors with national flags in their hands under the banners of various organizations staged the protests in Haflong. Since morning the protestors gathered at the at Shambhudhon point braving cold weather.

The agitators opposed even the formation of satellite council including the territory of the district in the proposed Naga Framework Agreement. If the government does so on December 25, Dima Hasao will burn the next day, the agitators threatened. They also said they would stop respecting the tri-colours if the government fails to understand their sentiment.

A number of Dimasa bodies – including Jadike Naiso Hosom (JNH), Dimasa Students Union, Dimasa Mothers Association on Sunday expressed their resentment on the issue of transfer of part of Dima Hasao territory in the proposed Nagalim.

It may be mentioned the hill district has witnessed series of agitation programme against proposed Naga Framework Agreement. On December 12, hundreds of agitators from different parts of the district gathered at the New Haflong railway station and also at Maibang railway station at 8 AM to voice their protest against proposed Naga Framework Agreement. They shouted slogans against any move to include the territory of the district in the Greater Nagalim.

In fact, simmering tension prevails in the district over the Greater Nagalim issue. Even movement of NSCN-IM cadre was noticed in bordering areas like Bongkhar, Sonapur, Prasademik, Khepre in Maibang sub-division of the district.
