Founder President of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA) Pradip Dutta Roy, came down heavily on AGP stalwarts and ministers of Assam, Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta for their comments on not allowing any Bengali Hindus to stay in Assam whose names do not come up post the final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC) slated to be published in December this year.
Addressing the media on Thursday, in Silchar, Pradip Dutta Roy, said, ‘who are they to decide anything as such. Who has given them the right to make any such comments?’
Not only the names of Bengalis has missed the list, but there are Assamese, Koch Rajbongshis, Bodos, Dimasas and residents of tea tribes too, who have not found a place in that list, so we are also concerned for them and want their names to come in the final list of NRC, he informed.
He also didn’t stop in condemning former Chief Minister of Assam, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta of the AGP who while addressing the media in Delhi, opposed the Illegal Migrants Determination Tribunal (IMDT) Bill.
Speaking to Northeast Now on other issues that has rocked Barak valley recently, Mr Dutta Roy, said, “the TMC delegation of MPs and MLAs’ visit to Silchar was to create a drama and now their supremo Mamata Banerjee who knows nothing of Assam, has started to realize and backtracking from the entire issue.”
He added, there are more than a ‘crore’ Bangladeshis in West Bengal, let her worry about all of those issues and stay away from the NRC process that is going on in Assam.”
Praising the efforts of State NRC Coordinator of Assam, Prateek Hajela and Registrar General of India, Sailesh, he said, “I know a section of people are trying their level best to bring about a massive divide between the Bengalis of Barak valley and Assamese speaking communities of Brahmaputra valley, which I strongly condemn, and likewise, appeal to all residents of Barak valley to maintain peace and harmony.
Before winding up the press briefing, he, startled us by saying that, “he withdraws the appeal to Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Mr Ajay Mishra, sent last May this year, of removing Justice Ranjan Gogoi from the NRC process, as Mr Gogoi is doing a yeoman’s service and I appreciate his efforts in this Herculean task of NRC process, that the entire country and the world are watching”.
