A non-governmental organization, Gangtok Round Table 301, a part of Round Table India, has felicitated five media persons for their contributions towards the development of media in Sikkim during an event ‘Titans of Media’ in Gangtok on Tuesday.

The programme had Governor Shriniwas Patil as the chief guest.

Ajay Agarwal, Nita Nirash, Suman Gajmer, Bijoy Gurung and Prabal Rai were felicitated during the programme.

These media persons belong to the categories of digital media, print, electronic and radio.

In his address, the Governor expressed that the media was the fourth pillar of democracy and has been playing an important role in disseminating information among the people at large and shaping public opinion.

He also encouraged media persons for their responsible role towards the society and to lead the society on the right path.

He further urged them to maintain high ethical standards and stressed on adapting to changing dynamics in a fast changing world.

Gangtok Round Table 301 chairman, Dhiraj  Goliyan appreciated the role played by the media in the State.

He mentioned that Gangtok Round table has been working in raising awareness and building educational infrastructure in many schools in the State.
