Deputy Commissioner (DC) cum District Magistrate (DM), Dr Sonal Swaroop has imposed a prohibitory order under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
An official press release issued on Monday stated that the prohibitory order was imposed in view of the apprehension of the possible breach of peace and tranquility in the district following the backdrop of the Students United Movement of All Arunachal’s (SUMAA) ‘Camp Bomdila’ on the Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy (TRP) and related issues which has hit the district at present.
The DC cum DM stated that the order would remain in force from July 23 until further orders.
The prohibitory order restricts movement of people in groups of more than four in and around all market areas, refugee settlement areas and government establishments of the district.
Further, all wine shops of Bomdila, Tenga and Rupa markets have been shut down, besides prohibiting carrying and entry of lethal weapons and arms within the district have also been restricted.
Meanwhile, the SUMAA has already announced that it would initiate its third phase of democratic movement against the state government from July 25 next over the TRP-2014 issue.
Besides the rollback of TRP, the other demands of the union include, the Tibetan committee to furnish the family tree cum records of all Tibetan refugees settled in Arunachal Pradesh and a clarification in written from the representatives of the Tibetan population that they would not ask for ‘citizenship’ in the future are some of the demands of the SUMAA.
