Kumar Sporting Club, Rongneck has emerged as the champion of Sikkim Football Association (SFA) Second Division Sikkim League 2018 played here at Paljor Stadium.

Sikkim Police has finished the second division league as the runner-up.

Both teams have secured nine points each from four matches in the league but on the basis of head to head, Kumar Sporting Club declared as the champion.

However, both teams have been promoted to the State Premier Division League 2019. It is a memorable moment for Kumar SC to get promoted in the premier division in its debut appearance in the second division.

The league kicked off on 25 June. A total of five clubs of the State have taken part in the league this time, which played four matches each against other participating teams in the league.

After playing four matches each, Howlers Football Club finished the league on the third position with 6 points and Renzong Football Club is on the fourth position with 6 points and Dzongri Football Club ended on the bottom with no points.

Kumar SC Goalkeeper, Hishey Norbu was adjudged the best goalkeeper, while Sagar Rai of Kumar SC was declared the man of the tournament. Fair play trophy has been presented to Howlers FC, Singtam and Bir Bahadur Pradhan of Sikkim Police received the highest scorer trophy for his 7 points in the league. The champion team received the trophy, individual medals and cash prize.

Kumar Sporting Club manager, Gokul Chettri expressed his immense happiness and satisfaction on getting promoted to the premier division league of the State in their debut appearance. The club was formed in 2016 and became the runners-up of C division league last year and promoted to the second division in 2018.

He mentioned that the main objective of the club was to provide wider exposure and platform to local players especially from different corners of the State. He added that the title of champion of the second division would further encourage the management and players of the club to prepare harder for the premier division next year.

Kumar Sporting Club coach-cum-player, Sagar Rai stated that every player of the team equally contributed to finish the league as the champion. He mentioned that the team mainly consisted of young footballers who were supported by a few experienced footballers of the State. “I am very happy and satisfied that the hard work of each player has paid off with finishing the league on the top,” he added.
